The 12th Ave and S Jackson St intersection stands as one of Seattle's busiest transit hubs, witnessing a significant flow of commuters daily. My earliest memories involve exploring the vibrant local eateries and shops of Little Saigon with my family, making this neighborhood a cherished part of my upbringing as a Vietnamese-American.
Situated within the Chinatown-International District, this intersection plays a crucial role in serving the transportation needs of the diverse communities residing and working in the vicinity. Key transportation challenges faced at this junction include safety concerns, transit accessibility, capacity constraints, operational efficiency, and the need to address social equity issues.
I created this graphic to engage the community in the forthcoming improvements planned for the intersection. It features warm colors and lotus motifs inspired by Vietnamese culture, paying homage to the heritage of the area. The iconic red street lights found at the intersection are also integrated into the design to maintain familiarity. Additionally, Vietnamese translations are provided to maximize inclusivity and accessibility for members of the community.
A 3D rendering showcasing a potential future look of the street. Custom icons were created to emphasize these planned improvements.
